Default Game Releases

Well for some of you here you know that I have been waiting for Civilization IV. Well it is finally here. Annoying that it was stated to be released on Oct 25th. Nope! Not in stock. Not big deal except I did take some time off this week in order to play it.

So I went and saw my buds at BestBuy. They do not have it in the store. If they did they would have sold it too me. Turns out my friend just happened to go to EB Games and they had only a few. So he picked up two games...one for me...one for him. Thr young lady behind the counter sold him the Pre-Order copies. The Special Edition copies. This is good, now we have the sound track and the Tech Tree and the Key Board template.

Well I have been playing this for hours now and my eyes are starting to wear out. My brian is fine....just the body is saying give it a rest for a change.

Great Game...can't wait to try the multi-player. They worked on that part of the game before anything else so it would run smoothly.

I am happy!

Loved (spent hours and hours) on Civ II Multiplayer gold, CivIII was a bit too fast per game, seemed easier to beat then Civ II for me, very curious about the VI one.

I haven't figured everything out yet...but RELIGION is key in this game along with Culture.

Graphics are sweet too. For a turn base game!

I'm still looking for Fable: The Lost Chapters for the Xbox. My old Fable disc broke and I was looking forward to picking it up again for $20 with the new content. Gamespot reviewed it a week ago, but no vendor has it yet.

I felt so burned by Fable that I just can't bring myself to give it another chance. I am looking forward to Age of Empires 3 and Civ 4 though.

Got 3 copies of Civ IV now (one for me, one for wife, one for friend). Only one was the pre-order, but that's enough. The regular versions got printed tech trees as well, so the only thing buying the pre-order special edition gives you is: cool box, keyboard template, and soundtrack CD.

I played through the Tutorial and a short half-game last night. Overall, it's "different" would be the best way to describe it. After having played in a fixed view for so long, playing with the 3d now is a little disorienting to me, especially when the computer is swinging the camera everywhere during the tutorial.

Religion is a neat touch, so are the other government types available. There are 7 of them, Hinduism, Buddhism, Taoism, Judaism, Muslim, Christianity, Confucianism. Seems they didn't really try to make them that different from each other to avoid offending anyone. Like they say in the manual, "...we're game designers, not theologians."

They made some pretty daring choices when they designed this one (slavery as a government, religions, and some of the leaders [like Mao]) but it seems to have worked. The way they describe the leaders in their bios is pretty straightforward and to the point as well, they don't pull any punches.

Personally, I found the game played a little bit "slower" than Civilization III. In Civ III, I could burn through about 30 moves in no time flat. In Civ IV, it's taking me much longer, partly because of the 3d maps and slow-downs, partly because I just don't know what I'm doing yet.

But expansion does not play as major a role in the early game as it used to. While the number of people in your city no longer determines if you can build a settler (remember, a city had to be min. size 3 before a settler could be built), now building settlers and workers don't cost citizens. But when building a settler, no extra food will be produced in that city, so there is a downside.

It seemed to me though that the expansion speed is slower now. I only had 1 city after about 40 or so turns still. I think you'll find that building cities is going to be much more strategic than it was in the "race for land" free-for-all that was Civ III.

Personally, I think I'll really enjoy the game. It's just going to take me some time to get used to it. (BTW, the theme music is REALLY good.)

Ugg... that was one thing I HATED about Civ III. If you didn't put cities all over your territory, nothing would stop an AI from sending anything across your turf. The changes on border rules is one of the best things about this new version IMO.

I have seen the classics retail Fable (including Lost Chapters) and Ninja Gaiden Black (lots of missions than the original) around numerous stores for £/$/€20. So I'd suggest you shop around for one of those gems if possible

i have an amiga copy, and one on cd, but i cant for the life of me get the cd one to work, even on old win98....and digging out the ammy is to much astle, since my bedroom floor is littered with consoles, old and new -^.^-
